Early on in my traveling career, I set out on a mission to visit as many Bed & Breakfast inns as I could. I love the feel of them and with the inn comes a wonderful backstory of the house and the innkeeper.
Camilla Rose Inn was one such place. It was a haven of tranquility within my travels. The perfect place to rest my head after a day of exploring. Located in the historic B&B area of Gainesville Florida Camilla Rose Inn is the place to stay.
Wonderful Reasons I Like Camilla Rose Inn

Camilla Rose Inn The Story
Camellia Rose Inn is a beautiful Queen Anne home, originally known as Swearingen House, and built for Thomas J. Swearingen in 1903. Swearingen, who owned one of the first automobile dealerships in Gainesville Florida, lived in the original house for fifteen years. The house would then be lived in by many different people before finally resting in the hands of Pat and Tom in 2006.
This Queen Anne home allows you to step back in time without losing all the modern-day comforts such as wireless internet and indoor plumbing.
Located in the historic district of Gainesville FL, the inn is surrounded by the beauty of history and is peaceful. It is a wonderful place to reconnect with your inner self. I know as moms we sometimes forget we need to take care of ourselves. For 18+ years I have been a mom to a growing boy. Now he is in college and I am learning that I need to embrace this new journey my life is taking.
I was able to do that while sipping tea on the porch of Camellia Rose Inn. It allowed me to reflect on life and to not look at my son off in college as an end but as a new beginning for us both.
The Sweet Touch
I can safely say all that reflection and inner soul-searching would not have happened if I hadn’t started each morning with a delicious homemade breakfast. From a delicious egg to a Dutch pancake with lemon curd, I was so spoiled eating grown-up food and not a piece of cold toast as I checked my son’s backpack for school or got him out the door for band camp. If you’re not a breakfast person such as my hubby no worries Pat keep fresh-baked goods available to nibble on and some of the most divine chocolate in the entry hall.
If that’s not enough to spoil you she also hosts an evening social where wine and snacks are served. By the way, did you know you can actually have an adult conversation without hearing mom a hundred times? It’s true I did it and it was amazing.
Housekeeping
Now I know what you are thinking how much is this all going to cost me. I promise the cost of a glorious adult weekend at Camellia Rose Inn is a lot less than the bail money would be when you finally lose your mind and duct tape all your kids to the wall. But for prices and availability check out their reservation site HERE.
I can also tell you the rooms are spacious, beautiful and they are handicap accessible Inn. I know that because for me I stayed in the room on the first floor called The Lady Clare. It was so nice I even fell in love with the antique desk and wrote for several hours from it.
Each room has its own personality and vibe. Plus if you would like more privacy or a longer stay than a few nights there is the Hodges House behind the inn. Here there are several efficiency apartments for rent. Camellia Rose Inn is the perfect place to step back, slow down, and just breathe in life.
Located in historic Gainesville Fl you are surrounded by history. Take a walk to sightsee, grab a meal at one of the many dining options or take a ride over to visit one of the many museums that Gainesville has to offer.
So whether you are looking for a girl’s weekend getaway, couples retreat to reconnect and ignite the romance or you just want to take a shower without hearing Mom!! yelled fifty times I highly recommend a stay at Camellia Rose Inn. I came home rejuvenated, centered, and more focused on me and my work.
